The Super Falcons of Nigeria walloped Equatorial Guinea 6-0 in their last group game of the 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations (AWCON) to book a semifinal date against Cameroon.
Nigeria needed a win against the whipping girls of Group B Equatorial Guinea and they did just that with a 6-0 win.
Reigning African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala netted a hat trick while Francisca Ordega, Desire Oparanozie and Rita Chikwelu were the other scorers for the Super Falcons.
The Super Falcons secured a second place finish in Group B with the win and progress to the semi finals.
It was Ordega who opened the scoring in the 10th minute after latching on to a pass from Chikwelu.
Woman of the Match
Oshoala opened her AWCON 2018 account in the 12th minute after receiving a brilliant pass from Oparanozie.
She grabbed the second and Nigeria’s third in the 21st minute with a calm and composed finish off a pass from Alimatu Ayinde.
Courtesy of the hattrick, Oshoala was named Woman of the Match.
In the 32nd minute, she completed her hattrick to put Nigeria 4-0 up at halftime.
It took Oparanozie just three minutes to score Nigeria’s fifth of the game before Chikwelu put the final nail in the coffin with a 63rd-minute goal.
The win guaranteed them a second place finish in Group B and they will now face Group A winners Cameroon in the semi-finals on Tuesday, November 27.
South Africa played out a 1-1 draw with Zambia to secure top place in Group B and will face Mali in Cape Coast also on Tuesday, November 27.
