Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has threatened to prosecute the former chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Yahaya Ibrahim Yero over alleged last minute award of contracts.
The Governor disclosed this when he received members of Bauchi State Youth Advocacy Conference at the Banquet Hall, Government House Bauchi on Monday.
The visit was part of activities marking this Year’s International Youth Day Celebration which was organised by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB) and a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), High Level Women Advocates (HILWA).
He said that the immediate past Chairman of SUBEB would be prosecuted for awarding contracts without accessing funds to pay for the contracts.
Senator Bala alleged that the contracts were only awarded to reward political patronage to some cronies of the immediate past administration in the state.
The governor said that many ghost teachers on the state payroll have been discovered.
He however, announced that 1,000 qualified teachers will be recruited within one month for the improvement of basic education.
Senator Bala also signed an Accord to comply with UNICEF requirements for intervention through prompt release of counterpart funding.
