FG returns Benue’s share of Paris Club refunds

as Ortom orders payroll from the fund

After returning to the Paris Club of federal government funds to the state of Benu, the acting governor of the state, Mr. Benson Abunu, instructed the Treasury Department to begin paying two-month wage, pension and benefits arrears on Monday.

According to a statement made in Makurdi by the Chief Press Secretary of CPS to Governor Terver Akas, the decision was made after proper consultation with Governor Samuel Ortum.

The statement said: “The acting governor gave assurances that salaries in October will also be paid a few days after paying two months in arrears, to allow state employees to use three months salary for one week.

“The government assures workers that as it began to pay wage arrears, pensions and benefits, it will continue to allocate funds to pay until wage arrears are paid.

"The government of Benue also appreciates the tireless and cooperation of workers and retirees of the state," the statement said.
