CSR: Nigeria Port Authority empower 50 young women in Kaduna: As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, (CSR), the Nigeria Port Authority NPA has empowered 50 young women between the ages of 20 to 35 years in baking and event decoration business skills in Kaduna.
Speaking at the launching of the NPA’s Cooperate Social Responsibility training and empowerment of Women within -Kaduna Metropolis, the CEO of Microdevelopment Consulting Limited, Furera Isma Jumare said the NPA will also exposed the beneficiaries to training on basic bookkeeping, marketing and entrepreneurship, in order to enable them run successful businesses and remain productive upon completing their training.
She said, “Skills of baking and decorating were selected from among potential areas of income generation such as tailoring because our investigation revealed that in the local economy, these two areas generate income quicker thereby indirectly impacting on the lives of thousands, such as their families and businesses around them, such as their suppliers. We have developed a database of the beneficiaries and plan to track them over the next one year to see their businesses are faring.”
According to the representative of the NPA, Abdulahi Bawa, the initiative is being replicated all over the country aimed at eradicating poverty, creating employment and give people stable means of income.
He urged the young women to ensure sustainability of the business skills and training imparted on them saying, “Enormous resources have been expended to ensure you receive adequate training and eventually, self-sufficiency.”
