Barcelona: Doubts about De Ligt could provide an opportunity for Umtiti
Barcelona Frenchman had been on the market
Barcelona are awaiting the decision of Matthijs de Ligt, but every day that passes, the Blaugrana feel further away from the Ajax captain.
However, the doubts surrounding De Ligt and his likely move to Paris Saint-Germain could reopen the door for Samuel Umtiti to stake a claim for his place in the Barcelona side.
The Frenchman stated that he wants to stay at the Camp Nou, and he is confident that he will get enough minutes to remain happy, particularly if De Ligt does not arrive.
Barcelona had made Umtiti available for a transfer as they worry about the state of his knee, though De Ligt now seems set to join PSG and that has made the Blaugrana hierarchy re-evaluate their thoughts on Umtiti.
Should the Dutchman end up spurning Barcelona‘s advances, they will not sign another centre-back this summer.
De Ligt has several succulent offers, with the most tempting being from PSG, but Juventus have joined the race to sign the 19-year-old in the last few hours.
In Italy, they report that Juventus vice-president and former player Pavel Nedved met with the defender’s agent to present him with a new offer.
However, economically, it seems that it will be far from the figure the Parisians have offered De Ligt.
