Aromatherapy Home Based Business – How to Start a Perfume Oil Business
An aromatherapy home based business is one of the better make money at home ideas for artistic, heart-led types.
Scent blending is an intuitive process – more of an art than a science.
An aromatherapist spends her days enveloped in natural fragrances. While the perfumer works at blending the essential oils, the oils work their therapeutic magic on the perfumer.
Before You Start An Aromatherapy Home Based Business
*Make sure you really know how to work with perfume oils. If perfume making is your hobby this probably isn’t an issue for you. But, if you are a fragrance newbie, you may not realize just how much knowledge, skill and practice it will take to gain enough proficiency to successfully run an aromatherapy home based business. There are hundreds of different plant oils. You will need to understand the effects of each one. Beyond knowing what each oil does, you’ll need to understand how to blend them into nose-pleasing, effective combinations. There are online courses which can get you up to speed in both these areas.
*Develop a unique product line. Practice will teach you which kinds of personal care products you most enjoy making. You can offer perfume oils, body butters and lotions, bath salts, lip balms, hair dressing oils, shampoos and conditioners, lip balm… More is better as the greater the number of offerings you have, the better your chances are of making a sale to any one customer. Just keep it manageable. Leave off anything you have difficulty making as you will end up making tons of it.
Remember to differentiate your line. Think about how many lines of body care products already exist. I’ll bet you can easily tell me the differences between them. A copycat line will not be well received by the marketplace. What is it that sets your body care products apart?
*Find and work with only the best suppliers. The quality of the oils is not uniform across all suppliers and it makes a huge difference in the quality of your finished product. Additionally, you’ll want to obtain the best available prices. You will also need attractive packaging and quality printing for your labels.
Only after all of this is in place will you be ready to go into production.
Marketing Your Aromatherapy Home Based Business
*Sell your products online through your perfume business website. This kind of website is not hard to build. It only consists of 5-10 pages. You can do it yourself. Or, you can outsource this project if your budget allows.
*Do in-home parties. You don’t have to have them in your home. Other people will let you use theirs in exchange for free products. Be sure to have free samples and a price list for each party guest to take home to encourage reorders.
*Another thing you can do at home to promote your aromatherapy business is teach a perfume blending workshop. If space is a problem, rent a public space. Most local libraries have meeting rooms that they will rent to you for very little money. Churches and recreational centers are alternate options.
